  • Lamp efficacy

    Lamp efficacy

By switching from Chalice 190 H to Chalice190 LED, power consumption has been reduced by 50-70 per cent, while the advanced LED system has either maintained or increased light output. This equates to sigificantly improved energy efficiency and performance.

  • Ballast classification

    Ballast classification

Controlling the electricity supply to the lamp (Energy Efficiency Index).

  • Luminaire distribution

    Luminaire distribution

Good levels of vertical illuminance provide light onto walls and the front of bookcases resulting in a bright welcoming space and allowing book titles to be read easily.

  • System efficacy

    System efficacy

Optical and thermal control within the luminaire are essential as even two lanterns of the same LED can have a widely differing light output ratio (LOR), lifetime and colour performance. Chalice 190 LED’s good luminaire design achieves a strong LOR and minimises light loss.

  • Presence/absence detection

    Presence/absence detection

Presence: Lights automatically turn on/off with movement. Absence: Lights automatically turn off and must be manually switched on.

  • Daylight detection

    Daylight detection

Artificial lighting which responds to the natural light conditions.

  • Constant illuminance

    Constant illuminance

A function designed to produce correct light levels for the duration of the maintenance period.

  • Task-scene setting

    Task-scene setting

Allowing the user to set scenes and adapt the lighting to different tasks.

  • Timed off

    Timed off

Automatic cut-off can be installed to turn all lights off during unoccupied hours.

  • Task lighting

    Task lighting

Lighting task areas with the correct amount of light.

  • Zoning of lighting

    Zoning of lighting

Lighting is zoned according to area use.

  • Maintenance schedule

    Maintenance schedule

With a 50,000-hour lifetime (@L70, Ta 25˚c), Chalice 190 LED minimises loss of light over time. In turn, the frequency of maintenance and the number of luminaires required to maintain lighting levels over the years are kept to a minimum.

  • Waste light

    Waste light

Eliminating waste light which does not hit the intended target.

  • Reflectance

    Reflectance

Taking advantage of light which is reflected from the surface within the space.

  • Visible smart metering

    Visible smart metering

Results of actions can be quickly seen as increased or decreased energy use to encourage responsible energy consumption.

Chalice 190 refurbishment delivers 40% more light using 50% less energy

Hjørring Library is located in the Metropol shopping centre in the middle of Hjørring,Denmark. Its inspiring architecture is designed to create an affinity with readers of all ages. The library includes a vibrant children's section with a reading tree and 'fish pond' filled with books, a trendy youth section with a huge 'sitting blob' and a sophisticated adult area with Chesterfieldplants, mahogany furniture and reading lamps.

The library had been previously fitted with 250 Chalice 190 H compact fluorescent downlights. The launch of Chalice 190 LED in 2012 however meant the first 'true' passive cooled replacement for conventional TC-DEL downlights was available. Chalice 190 LED's ability to reduce energy consumption by up to 70 per cent, combined with identical product dimensions, ceiling cut-out and attachments for ease of installation, presented an excellent business case for refurbishing the lighting.

Other benefits of Chalice 190 LED include passive cooling technology which helps prevent the components over heating; this reduces the chance of malfunction and maintains performance. A computer-modeled reflector design with a breakthrough texture coating layer also improves vertical illuminance while the CRI of > 80 is in line with EN12464-1.

Positive feedback from installer and customer alike

Jesper Madsen from lighting installers Hjørring El-Teknik says: "The new lighting was required to consume less energy and by doing so, save energy related costs. As a minimum, the lighting level had to be maintained; however it has in fact increased. Because the old luminaires were Chalice downlights, the change to Chalice LED offered a quick and easy solution, as well as savings in relation to the cost of mounting the downlights."

Erik Østergaard from Hjørring Library says: "So far I have only had positive remarks about the new light. The corridors are brighter and the café area is more inviting with an uplifting atmosphere due to higher light levels."
