The town of Nenzing in Vorarlberg has taken a big step towards the future with renewed street lighting from Thorn and the intelligent UrbaSens lighting management system from Zumtobel Group Services (ZGS). This saves the community energy and at the same time increases the well-being and safety of residents and visitors.
One partner for a comprehensive solution
Thorn and ZGS supported Nenzing in their progressive approach. The comprehensive package supplied includes: Modern LED-street luminaires R2L2, and the innovative UrbaSens lighting control system. The cooperation of both brands brings the advantage of one ready-to-use system from one point of contact.
Street lighting with precision
The R2L2 street lights from Thorn impressed the local council particularly with their quality, efficiency and precise lighting control without stray light losses. The luminaires were already fitted with the corresponding UrbaSens component at the factory, which simplified the installation on site. The installation was carried out by E-Werke Frastanz technicians after receiving a training from the Zumtobel Group Services Team.
The lighting control system UrbaSens enables Nenzing to precisely adapt the lighting levels of the 550 R2L2 street lights according to the actual lighting needs. What that means in reality: In areas where only limited lighting is needed at night, for example in quiet residential areas, the lighting control system can dim the street lights down to 20%. This allows the residents a restful sleep. When the traffic is heavy, for example during rush hour, time controls raise the lighting level, providing greater safety.
Florian Kasseroler, Mayor of the market town of Nenzing is delighted: ”We’re proud that our town is taking on such a pioneering role as a Smart City. UrbaSens from Zumtobel Group Services offers us the right amount of light at the right time and in the right place. This saves us up to 80% energy and increases our residents’ sense of wellbeing. In addition the modern Thorn R2L2 LED street lights fit perfectly into our urban landscape.“
