  • Lamp efficacy

    Lamp efficacy

By switching from mercury MBF 125 lanterns to five EP 145 LED, power use has been reduced, while the state-of-the-art LED system has increased light output.

  • Ballast classification

    Ballast classification

Controlling the electricity supply to the lamp (Energy Efficiency Index).

  • Luminaire distribution

    Luminaire distribution

Controlling light emission using optics which bend and shape the light to the correct location.

  • System efficacy

    System efficacy

Optical and thermal control within the luminaire are essential as even two lanterns containing the same LED module can have widely differing light output ratios (LOR), lifetimes and colour performance. EP 145 LEDs design achieves a strong LOR and therefore minimises light loss.

  • Presence/absence detection

    Presence/absence detection

Presence: Lights automatically turn on/off with movement. Absence: Lights automatically turn off and must be manually switched on.

  • Daylight detection

    Daylight detection

Artificial lighting which responds to the natural light conditions.

  • Constant illuminance

    Constant illuminance

A function designed to produce correct light levels for the duration of the maintenance period.

  • Task-scene setting

    Task-scene setting

Bi-power dimming allows light levels to be reduced during the quietest hours of the night. Automatically reducing light output and energy use by 50% for 8 hours per night results in significant energy savings with minimal impact on pedestrians and users.

  • Timed off

    Timed off

Automatic cut-off can be installed to turn all lights off during unoccupied hours.

New EP 145 LED transforms light and slashes energy consumption in historic French street

EP 145 LED, a traditional 19th Century style street lantern, is now equipped with LEDs to refurbish historic streets and spaces with a durable, energy efficient solution. A recent test refurbishment of a street in Les Andelys, France, involved replacing five 19th Century style ageing mercury MBF 125 lanterns with five EP 145 LED lanterns, with the aim of achieving better light quality along with energy savings.

A recent test refurbishment of a street in Les Andelys, France, involved replacing five 19th Century style ageing mercury MBF 125 lanterns with five EP 145 LED lanterns, with the aim of achieving better light quality along with energy savings.

The objectives of the project have been successfully achieved, with the average lighting level from 4.3 to 11.2 lux. Energy consumption has also reduced from 140W to just 28W with Bi power nighttime dimming. The long 70,000-hour lifetime (@L70 Ta 25°C,) virtually eliminates the need for routine lamp replacement.

Project Manager, Corinne Delor, explains: "In addition to improving light quality and reducing energy consumption, design continuity was an important consideration for this test project. EP 145 LED has allowed the technology to be updated while keeping the lantern design unchanged. This means the city refurbishment can be implemented street by street without any inconsistency issues.

"Crucially, the white light is maintained but is now comfortable and glare free. The colour rendering index (CRI) has also increased from just 50 to 70, which is particularly important for the lively environment in which the lantern is located."

Les Andelys municipality says: "This new LED lighting gives a nicer feeling of light intensity and better light ambiance. The local contractor, from BLONDEL adds: "With its traditional aesthetics, EP 145 LED perfectly complements this historic street. The quality of light is better too, thanks to the good colour rendering. It's also great to know I will not need to maintain it for a long time."
